Last year we were exploring new farms around Elk Grove, CA and found Fog Willow Farms hidden along a country route. The farm is located just outside Sacramento and takes only about 20 minutes from downtown Sacramento and Folsom to get to. It’s in a gorgeous rural community off the lazy Consumnes River that seems hidden away from the hustle of the city.
We made sure to visit right when the farm opened, at 9:30 am, and on a weekend to avoid the school field trip crowd. We stopped for pumpkin lattes on the way there and we were ready for some fun. Fog Willow Farms is a 9 acre farm that features a hay bale play area, petting zoo, farm animals, hay ride, tractor train ride, pony rides and more. This is a farm where tots can run and jump and explore. It’s big enough that we take about 2 hours to see what we want to see and it’s small enough that toddlers and babies won’t get too worn out.
There are nice penned areas to get up close and personal with farm animals like horses, goats, sheep, pigs and more. There are bee hives to see and a petting zoo where animal snacks can be purchased and small animals fed by tots and parents.
The farm also has one of the best photo-op locations of any farm we have visited. It’s a cute country scene set up for families to gather and every year we like to see how many of our friends on Instagram also visited the farm.
We purchased pumpkins for reasonable prices and found some of the fattest pumpkins we have found in our travels this year. Make sure to take a look at the smaller pumpkins and other varieties available in the carts by the entrance. They are under $10 and make for perfect fillers for fall decor.
There is a snack shack that serves up food along with baked goods and other fall favorites. The farm does allow outside food and there is available shaded picnic tables for lunch picnics or snacks.
Parking is in a dirt lot and restrooms are outhouse style.
